Nexajoule, Inc. is a startup company in Boulder, CO currently focused on developing novel cooling solutions with a quantum leap in energy efficiency over standard air conditioning systems. The company was founded in 2003 by Dr. Eric E. Jarvis. With over 18 years of experience in energy research, much of it at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO, Dr. Jarvis is passionate about energy issues and the potential for improving energy efficiency throughout the economy. Nexajoule has received grant funding from both the California Energy Commission's Public Interest Energy Research program and from the Colorado Governor's Energy Office for development of the SWEC technology (see Technology and Applications).
We use over 100 Exajoules ("EJ"; 1 EJ = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 Joules) of energy each year in the United States, and over 500 EJ worldwide. Every year new Exajoules of demand are added, which begs the question of where the Next Exajoule of energy will come from -- thus the name "Nexajoule." Nexajoule's mission is to devise and develop novel concepts for energy efficiency -- which is invariably the cheapest and least environmentally damaging source of new energy.
